large birds Norfolk UK (1 Viewer)

Hi I saw these 6 large birds with slow wingbeat out at sea off of Horsey Beach Norfolk, through the binoculars they looked white on the front half of the body and wings and black at the back. I hope one of you can help me solve this

thanks for the quick replys, I would never have thought of herons as I think of them as solitary inland birds. I'll get the hang of birding one day

I've had a group of 16 on a seawatch once, about a mile out. Like you, I had not thought of them as occurring over the sea, but some reading I did afterwards showed that this is not uncommon.
