Hey hey, BRW nerd here again! As I found out I could get a cheap homepage thing so I use that to make everything BRW related! The site is still a WIP as I work on it here and there, but the one part I do wanna share what I find interesting is the BRW samples
. Hope it is correct place as it is bird sounds related and I self recorded these too
.
Here is the site I am working slowly:

BRW songs are MEGA important to me, because they make me SUPER happy when I hear them sing and ESPECIALLY when I can hear an amazing rhythm they do! They make me go out each night for 5 hours for these EPIC moments and I have captured their songs since 2017. Then I draw art for each invidual BRW and their song "lyrics" so to show this specific birds "best parts" of his song. I sometimes had to redraw many of the words and then I realised "Why don't I make an illustrated onomatopoeia for EACH separate sound" so I can use that specific sound for each part when it appears during BRW singing?
That's when I thought to make this database.
I also am curious about BRW mimics as I have heard many times the mimics FIRST on a BRW and later have heard that sound exactly on the real bird randomly, and I was like "Wait, I KNOW that sound, this specific "sample" was on this specific BRW whp did this sound in THIS rhythm! So THATS who is the original maker of this sound!!"
It is like a MEGA huge puzzle to fill. I still have 232 illustrations to do but as in 10 days my 50 night marathon starts, I will continue doing this when the busiest time is over I have been waiting 12 months
.
Each onomatopoeia I draw has a meaning, with the colour, gradient and effect. There is a tiny icon on each image left upper corner, when you click, you can hear the sample.
I sadly am not very good making homepages so it was VERY hard for me to find a plugin what does what I wanted to do. Any other plugins costed money or didn't do this thing I want them to do. So this 1 plugin (Audio story for images) was the closest to the idea I had in mind - a soundboard you can click, hear and see the sample, what helps to memorise the sounds and help finding out mimics. It also helps to remember "Wait, was this "thik" sound this way? clicks sound ah noo, maybe it was "Tsik?" so you can click the sounds and see and compare sounds between different BRWs or even the original bird. Would be awesome ofcourse if the whole image would be clickable, but I don't know programming to be able to do that.
If a sound is vibrating, it will be shown. If sound is lower or bassy, its purple. If its mega high sounding, it shines like a lamp! Sounds like a glass, I draw glass texture on a word? When it sounds something is "running" like the word "Njau", i show the speed lines and a dust of cloud. These specific illustrations help me hear the sounds between different singing BRWs, as I get visual pic in my head when I hear "Dabuuta" because that sounds something what bounces and is a pink coloured. Same like "davvat" It is like a sofa texture for me and has a bounce! (I have synesthesia)
Here is also a video illustration how each sound works for me how I see them too (I find it fun to animate the onomatopoeia to bring attension to the epic songs BRWs do!"
And what also helps with this is - I notice the details much more precisely now too! Now I can hear asap where this sample was used and before I did not pay too much attention but now I can pinpoint exact samples used on each brw. Like "Tink" sound by Scorch, now I have noticed this "Tink" elsewhere too (Tudvi) because I have the image in my head and when I heard the same sound, I could pinpoint that sound there too.
A great example how this site helps me too as last year Tako the BRW sang and he did a cool bassy sound "Türärärärä!" what I LOVE. During my dawn chorus and dusk chorus recording sessions, I RANDOMLY heard "Türärärärä" sound and it was done by Great Spotted Woodpecker! Instantly I had "Wait, that's the Tako sound he used to make epic bassline!" I never expected this sound to come out from a GSW and I always wondered this specific sound for so long!! And I have never heard this sound before from GSW. It was always a "Bjikk!" or faster "Bjikk"s in a row.
And when I relisten each BRW (I do it because it is my happiness and using it on BG ambience) I can now hear so much more where each sample is used and I notice it so much clearly that "Wow, I didn't notice how much of these samples are shared!" I listened audios I recorded in 2017 and 2018 and I can hear all the familiar samples I didn't "pay attention" before
. Even if the older audio quality is crappier, I could still hear "ahhaa, that is X sound, this is Y sound, 3rd is Z sound!"
Sorry for lengthy post but I am just so mega excited and I hope this idea somehow helps others too noticing the sounds around birds
. Hope you all here have a beautiful day and as May approaches closer, the world is full of bird sound happiness!!
