Hawk ID Missouri (1 Viewer)

Cardamom Pod

Very well, Dr. Humorous Droll
I saw this hawk flying over my house, and wasn't sure about the ID; light morph red-tail was my only guess since it seemed to be about that size.

Thanks. I was unsure because I'd only seen darker morphs around here before, but I guess it makes sense that there would be several kinds possible.

The dark patagial area (leading edge of wing) and dark comma marks in the carpal (wrist) area makes this definitely a redtail. The lack of other markings argues for the Krider color morph.

That is a possibility. Krider's are designated as "light morphs" of the Eastern race or sub-species of the Red-tailed Hawk. B. j. borealis. See Wheeler.
