Collins bird guide 2nd edition large format (1 Viewer)

RE Birder

Birding not twitching
Just received this today from Amazon for £31
Great to have it in the large format. Just had a brief flick through. However just wondering if anyone has noticed the Sabine's gull page, page 193 is slightly blurred?

Yes excellent value, just that page doesn't seem to reflect the quality of the other pages, doesn't seem to be as sharp. But to have this book in the large format is fantastic

Also page 291 has the headings Kurdish and Persian Wheatear placed over the Kurdish Wheatear male and female. Anybody else have this. Starting to think I might have a faulty copy??

Amazon are happy to replace the book. Do the other posters have the print on the Wheatear also?

Mine is the same. I guess they are all like that and a replacement will be identical. I think I'll live with it. Who knows it might be more collectable.

Agreed, I was curious

The Sabines page though in mine does not represent the quality of the rest of the book

I seem to remember a similar problem with the buzzards page on the 1st edition (hardback). It didn't effect all books as friends of mine had no printing faults on their copies. Maybe worth a call to the publishers?

Hi, is content of the large formate edition identical to the normal edition, just larger, or is there addtional text or any other differences?
Thanks, Florian

Just received a replacement copy from Amazon. Exactly the same.
I still think the plates on page 193 are of poorer quality and are not as sharp

As well as the issues with the wheatear plates, as already mentioned, my Common Starling has a bright red head, another printing error. I was at Titchwell today and checked their stock which was exactly the same. I know it's not the end of the world but it does detract a little from what is otherwise an excellent publication.

It's pretty much the same. The forward is slightly different and there are some pictures of the authors/illustrators with text over 3 pages. Quite nice to be able to put a face to the people who have produced this excellent guide.
