It's likely that better ones can be taken, but if it's of any use to anyone I got a fluke shot yesterday up at collieston. On the blog if you want to have a look.

Nice tail shot Mark. Yesterday morning there were two loitering Humpys with the more distant one doing a bit of the tail waggling stuff for a bit. Only got pics of the closer one, attached below.

Please put this stuff out on ABZ--these are thousands times better than LBJs--especially at this time of year!

Humpbacks??

Judging from the posted photos, these look more like sperm whales, big flat head, sharp break at the dorsal fin.

360 miles (over 6 hours) is not my idea of a short drive!!!!! Good luck.
The Humpbacks are there today---seen at 11.30 directly out from Collieston but when I saw them at 14.00 they were well south (probably slightly north of Balmedie).
You will need warm clothes as it will be very cold (hat, scarf, gloves, thermal underwear etc!!!!)

Thanks very much.

If we get there for sunrise where do you think is the best place to go first to look? I was thinking Balmedie first.

Will dress warm thanks & plenty of coffee for the drive

Going by the general trend, morning is usually best at Collieston and you can see all the way south from there so you should be able to suss it out if you spot the blows
Sunrise is about 08.15.
Good luck

We saw 2 humpbacks feeind & blowing for around an hour & a half today.

Well worth the trip from Leeds.

Thanks for the help.

Chris

I went down at 13.00 and they were still around.
Glad your trip was worthwhile.
Did you see the Porpoises--there were loads around.
