Hi, the black kites distributed by all the province for breeding. In the prebreeding season, it is possible to see them arrive at the province but single, pairs or little flocks (5-8 birds). But just before beginning the posbreeding migration (July-Sep.) if it is possible to see great flocks + - 100 birds.
I was trying to determine the route used by birds which have passed the Pyrenees.
From your reply it appears that in spring these birds do not pass through Burgos (because they would presumably still be in flocks).
You seem to imply that the flocks that you see in autumn are local birds which have gathered together prior to migration.
Would it be possible to conclude that birds from further north do not pass through Burgos on autumn migration, or is that reading too much into the evidence ?
Yes, I think that the birds that go towards France, pass more to the east. And, yes, the flocks just before the autumn migration can be the local birds and of near provinces, Cantabria and Basque country.
Last report on the Burgos birds (January - March), with interesting records, many first records of migratory birds from Africa, Black Kite, Little Kestrel , Cuckoo, Wryneck, Barn Swallow, House Martin, Iberian Chiffchaff…, interesting records of migratory birds northwards, Waders, Common Crane, Fielfare, Redwing…, and other interesting records of Lammergeier, Black Vulture, Wallcreeper...
