Black-throated Blue Warbler? N IL USA 5/12/22 (1 Viewer)

Hey All migration has been bountiful around here. I saw this guy any chance its a Black throated blue warbler?

Looks good to me. Not a lot of warblers with unstreaked white belly and black throat.

I think this one's a chickadee, showing unmarked wings and whitish cheek. Not sure if you get Black-capped or Carolina (looks more Carolina to me).

The back and the hindneck contrast strongly, which is wrong for black-throated blue warbler in any plumage, and that species' white base to the primaries appears to be absent.

I’m leaning towards a Chickadee as well.

Good catch, Birdmeister. I never noticed the black mark under a chikadee's wing before! You're right about the pale cheek, and you can just see the black cap.

Agree. The white nape and lack of white wing spot had me scrambling for alternatives.

Ha, my first thought was great tit not a warbler……(obviously not a great tit as you don’t have many of them in USA)
