APM MS 6.5x32 ED - focus and optics? (1 Viewer)

Hi, if anyone has used the center focus version of this binocular, I’m curious about focus performance and also optical performance. In particular I wonder how focus and optics compare to the banner cloud glasses. Thanks, jeff

I have one on order from APM. Markus said they would ship at the end of next week, so I will write a review on them when I get them. I also had the Banner Cloud APO 8x42, so I can compare the two.

The IF version of the APM 6.5x32 had pretty good reviews, and that is why I ordered the CF version of it. It seems like a bargain at $250. Here is Herman's review.

Hermann. What is the OD of the eye cups in mm? Is there any way to switch them out? I have heard they are quite large.
Haven't got my calipers here, so these measurements are approximate: The eyecup diameter is ~49 mm. The lenses are ~30mm in diameter.

The diameter of the eyecups is the largest I've seen, larger than that of the big Canon. I'm not sure if the eyecups can be switched out.

Thanks. The Banner Clouds APO 8x42 were 48mm, and they were huge, so that could be an issue for me.

A Swarovski EL 8x32 is 38mm, and it fits me well. I wonder why they make the eye cups so large in diameter.

I love them. They're my go-to now vs my Kowa 6.5x32 and even my Oberwerk 8x32SE. The view is just too sharp to pass up. I feel like I'm missing fine details otherwise. The focuser could be faster for sure, but I don't find it problematic. The Kowa has a great fast focuser and I still find myself leaving them behind in favor of the APM's.

Good! Because I have a pair on order. Porro's are really sharp because the design is so simple. You like them better than your Oberwerk 8x32 SE? Does the FOV seem big?

Definitely a big FOV. I can keep up with swallows at close distance. They bring out more detail than my Oberwerk 8x32SE, so they are hard to pass up.
I just asked for a comparison between the 8x32 Oberwerk SE and the APM (which Canip very kindly did) so your comment is very timely. Any further remark between those two would be more than welcome :)

Hi Jeff. Sorry I have not tried the APM MS 6.5x32 ED, but it looks like the Levenhuk Sherman Pro 6.5x32 is very similar. The optics on the Levenhuk are crystal clear in the sweet spot with huge FOV (10 deg), large diameter of ocular lenses (maybee 28 mm, dont remember), but with a stiff focus wheel and quite heavy.

I’d like to compare these two bins some day.

I bet they are the same or very similar. I think the ocular lens on the APM is 30mm, which is huge.

Once I get my APM 6.5x32, I will write a review on it. It takes about two weeks to get a pair from APM in Germany.
