Does anyone recognise this wee fella?

I've been through UK Moths several times but either it's not there or, more likely, I'm missing it.

I recognised this as Red-barred Tortrix (Ditula angustiorana). What the experts think?

Alan, how big is it? I don't think it's a tortrix with feathered antenna like that.

At a guess I'd say total wingspan would have been around 15mm.

So it's pretty small. Have to say has me stumped - I presume it was caught recently? I'm likely to be overlooking something obvious, but can't even place it as to family at the mo. With your permission I could put the pic up on ukmoths to see if anyone has an idea?

Yes- that's would be fine.

Photo was taken yesterday in Easter Ross in and area of heather, broom, and a lot of Scots Pine as well.

Hi,

Martin Corley on ukmoths posted the following in response to your moth:

"I have never seen this myself, but it is Philedonides lunana. There are a few Tortricidae with pectinate antennae. Razowski is not much help, as he not only illustrates a female, with filiform antennae, but also one that is almost uniformly brown!"

So there you go - new one for me!

Well if you look at the checklist number, 1009 against your 1010, you couldn't get much closer

Mike - Funny thing is we've been back twice in search of another one for the purpose of getting a better photo but we can't find any. On the 20th there were quite a few being flushed from the heather. I took one home for a better photo and it escaped. I grabbed that shot with the terrible background just before it dissappeared forever.
