  1. Hooded Oriole male

    Hooded Oriole male

Arrived a day early, but just as beautiful as ever. So far there are two males and just one female but I expect more to arrive soon.
  2. Hooded Oriole

    Hooded Oriole

Arrived 2 days earlier than last year. I can always count on the orioles to arrive about the same time. The females should start arriving next week.
  3. See you next year

    See you next year

Sadly I had to say goodbye to our last three orioles. The bees arrived and they loved the wide open feeder ports in the hummer feeders. It's really sad to watch the young orioles as they wonder what is wrong and why they can't get inside the feeders to drink any longer (the feeders now have...

    Hooded Oriole

This is one of our youngsters that just arrived at our feeders. I haven't seen an adult for a couple weeks but I guess they're around somewhere.
  5. Hooded Oriole

    Hooded Oriole

This youngster is starting to get more bright yellow feathers. Thanks to all of you for your kind comments on my photos.

The yucca blooms which are full of pollen and insects which attract the orioles and hummingbirds. We're still having computer problems so forgive me if I don't get to comment on your pictures.

    This is an immature male.

When the nectar producing flowers in the desert all bloom, the local birds all are in heaven!

    Splish-Splash, I was taking a bath......

This guy just jumped right in the middle......water was a flyin' all he needed was a bar of soap!! Yep, just way to much fun!!

    Diving right in there!!

I was just having way to much fun watching these Hooded Orioles play in the water today!! Not a lot of work getting done!! LOL
  11. You can just wait your turn!!

You can just wait your turn!!

This Hooded Oriole was having a great time, showering in the fountain, right out side my gallery door. He ended up with a crowd waiting for their turn. On side note, has anybody ever seen a House Finch with this coloring? He looks to me to be a bit of a cross between a Purple finch and the...
  12. Right on time!

    Right on time!

One hooded arrived three days early but another male arrived right on time and he even brought the first male bullock's with him. I love to keep track of the arrivals but if they're late I do worry if they're okay. Had to catch this one through the window.

When the flower bloom here in La Paz, Mexico, all the nectar eating birds truly have a feast!

    Sat. Fun-"sit up straight"

This juvie Hooded Oriole was trying to figure out how to drink the sugar water. The male Bullock's Orioles finally got her to get up straight and drink. I see this every year and still have to laugh as I watch them.

He still needs to get the bright yellow coloring rather than this greenish yellow.
  18. Hooded Oriole

    Hooded Oriole

This female was keeping an eye on her nearby mate. They come to the feeders together and always leave together but that will probably change once their nest is completed.

    Hooded Oriole

This is a great time of year for me. Lots of hummers, swallows and orioles coming up close. This male was trying to decide which hummer feeder he'd use to get some sugar water. Wishing you all a Happy Easter. Stay safe.
  21. First for the year

    First for the year

This male arrived three days ago and wasn't due for a couple weeks. Two days later the first male bullock's arrived-also early. That's okay with me. Each of them must have been here in previous years because as soon as I put their feeder out with the larger feeder ports, they rushed to it...

    Hooded Oriole

Sadly the last of the orioles left yesterday. The bees took over the sugar water feeders with the larger feeder ports so I had to replace them with the bee guards. I'll sure miss the birds but they'll return next year and I know I've given them a good start for their journey.

    Hooded Oriole

Can't help it, I'm addicted to these youngsters at the moment. I think it's the look of innocence they all have that attracts me most.

  25. Just a few left

    Just a few left

I'm down to 6 hooded and 2 bullock's orioles now. I find it interesting that just an adult, a male hooded, has stayed behind with the youngsters.
