Product Review: Oberwerk SE 8 x 32 ED.

Following up on post #143 for anyone interested, I recently returned my 8x32 SE to Oberwerk's EU distributor in Italy after the diopter ring became detached. It was made of quite lightweight plastic and seemed to have been just glued to the metal ring underneath it. It didn't seem like a very...

    Zeiss 8x30 B porro questions

This seems to be what you are looking for, again in Germany: Zeiss West 8x30 B Porro 7-stellige Serie (Typ II) The seller says it is the last model produced, with a 133m FOV. Adds that the seven-digit serial number is proof, and that all earlier variants had six digits. He claims practically...

    Zeiss 8x30 B porro questions

In case any of you Zeiss nerds are interested, someone in Berlin is selling off a collection of classics, some of which look completely unused: Alle Anzeigen von Roland | Kleinanzeigen.

Bushnell SpaceMaster II / Vixen GLH20D *pics*

Thank you very much Pete for this very helpful information. I didn't know that 3D printing had become so accessible. I think I will take a path of lesser resistance, though. I just had a rather confused email exchange with one of your colleagues on the same subject and I think your input makes...

Bushnell SpaceMaster II / Vixen GLH20D *pics*

I know this is an old thread and that the pool of people still interested in this scope is probably very small, but, encouraged by Ownthenight's posts, I have been trying to fit a Vixen GLH20D to my own ancient Spacemaster II, so far without success, and I am hoping someone here might have some...

Product Review: Oberwerk SE 8 x 32 ED.

p.s. I tried the Genesis 8x33 during my recent bino search and I could not see the whole field of view while wearing glasses.

Product Review: Oberwerk SE 8 x 32 ED.

I wear glasses with my Oberwerk 8x32s, and find the eye relief more than enough. I use elastic hair bands (poor man's O-rings) to keep the eyecups a little above the lowest position. Works just fine for me. I bought this binocular about three months ago for birding and like it very much. It...

Kite Ibis ED/DDOptics EDX vs DDOptics SHG in 7/8x42

Thanks Arch. Sorry, I'm getting my Opticrons mixed up. It's the Auroras I can't get here. I tried the Savanna porros and they are great value, really sharp and bright in the middle as maybe only porros can be at this price. Compact and light, nice in the hand. I could have lived with the...

Kite Ibis ED/DDOptics EDX vs DDOptics SHG in 7/8x42

Thank you, that's interesting. I've already boxed up the HDXs for return, but I should call Zeiss and see what they can offer before the return period expires.

Kite Ibis ED/DDOptics EDX vs DDOptics SHG in 7/8x42

Thanks for your suggestion Arch. I am an Opticron fan but can only get a limited range of products in Germany (Brexit makes buying from the UK slow, painful and expensive. A bit like dental treatment) that doesn't include the Savanna 8x42. I'd like to try it, expect the optics are just fine...

Kite Ibis ED/DDOptics EDX vs DDOptics SHG in 7/8x42

FWIW, I'm returning both the Conquest HDX 8x42 and the DDOptics SHG 8x42. The former is gorgeous optically and in the hand, sharp and bright, works well with eyeglasses, comfy view. I really don't like glare and the HDX is very good in that regard. But the focuser is so fast and so 'dry' that it...

Kite Ibis ED/DDOptics EDX vs DDOptics SHG in 7/8x42

Too heavy. It would be nice to pair the Oberwerk, which is really a lot of fun once you get used to it, with a quality lighter roof that is also user-friendly enough to pass to non-fanatics tagging along on birding trips without them having to wrestle with the controls.

Kite Ibis ED/DDOptics EDX vs DDOptics SHG in 7/8x42

Too heavy. And having bought a (pretty heavy) Oberwerk with potentially dodgy build (eyecups and focus) I want to pair or replace it with something I can rely on and that is user-friendly enough to pass to a casual birding companion without them having to wrestle with the controls.

Kite Ibis ED/DDOptics EDX vs DDOptics SHG in 7/8x42

Fair enough Jan. I ordered an SHG and a new Conquest so I can select the best and return one. I am hoping at least one is as sharp as the Oberwerk (and its supposedly ED glass). I was so comfortable with my sr.ga's that I didn't pay any attention to how binoculars had improved. I'd never looked...

Kite Ibis ED/DDOptics EDX vs DDOptics SHG in 7/8x42

Thanks Canip. Should I expect the SHG to have inferior glare management, given its wide field? And does the (apparent) lack of ED glass play any role there, or is it only relevant for CA?

Kite Ibis ED/DDOptics EDX vs DDOptics SHG in 7/8x42

Hello community. This is my first post here. Thanks to all those whose more copious contributions make it so informative. I've been reading the forum intensely in recent weeks while looking for a new all-round birding bino. I'd like something below 1,000 euros, below 800g and with a decent FOV...
