    Norwich Birding

2 Red Kites over Beech Plantation along the A47 between the Dereham Rd and Earlham Rd junctions (and then over Sainbury's at Longwater Lane) yesterday eve at 5.15ish. A new addition to my Norwich list as thanks to being the right side of the A47, which I use as my southern boundary!

    Norfolk mammals

Disappointingly, there have been 4 dead Badgers over the past month along the A11 between Ketteringham and Spooner Row. I hope this doesn't represent too big a chunk of the local population. A bat sp. last night was feeding under the street lights on West End, Costessey, while I was on toad patrol!

A pair of Long-tailed Tits seem to be nest building in my garden at the mo and the Buzzards were displaying yesterday over the woods. Spring must be in the air...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Haven't seen a butterfly on the wing yet this year but the hibernating Small Tort that has been in my garden all winter has now disappeared, so presumably it's woken up in the slightly warmer, sunnier weather of the past two days.

A pair appear to be nest building in a dense bush in my garden over the past few days. Really hope they stick around to breed!

    Norwich Birding

A "first" at my feeders today was a Starling! I often seen them flying over but the only previous one actually in my garden was in the talons of a Sparrowhawk! A flock of 20 or so Siskins hanging around had at least 1 Lesser Redpoll with them. Stock Dove are frequent in the fields beyond my...

What might this be? Central Scotland

Wren would certainly fly quickly from fence to fence. As you have a feeder, keep en eye out for a Dunnock hopping around on the floor beneath the feeder...

Bird from a kids bird quiz

Children's quizzes are great - one last year (in England) had a Violet-green Swallow (think it was supposed to be a Barn Swallow)!!! Also, some sort of bunting (can't remember which) that was supposed to be a House Sparrow!

    West Malaysia -?Whimbrel

I've seen some extremely short billed Curlew where the bill shape is very hard to judge (or very Whimbrel-like), especially depending on head position. Some Curlew also show a more distinct head pattern than expected: http://www.sognet.org.uk/Images/Curlew_3_Two_Tree_261202.jpg

Sorry, agree Monty's, I let the dark secondaries fool me without looking any closer.

    West Malaysia -?Whimbrel

Didn't think the head pattern looked right on the first shot of the second bird (photo 2 in post 1) but the new photos do make it a Whimbrel for me too.
