Identification

20 cm (7¾ in)

  • Yellowish-olive crown, nape, cheeks, ear-coverts and neck sides
  • Yellow vent area
  • Black bill
  • Grey legs and feet

Distribution

An endemic to south India.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Rocky wooded hillsides. Usually occurring at heights around 600–1300 m.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of berries and insects.

Breeding

The nest is made of roughly made from loose twigs and hay, bound together by cobwebs and lined with fine fibres. The clutch consists of 2 whitish eggs, blotched with purple and brick-red markings. The eggs are incubated by the female for 20 days, and the young are fed by the female.
