Distribution
Endemic to the Philippines (Negros, Guimaras, Panay, Masbate and Ticao)
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly included in Greater Flameback (Chrysocolaptes lucidus)
Habitat
Lowland forests and plantations with some large trees.
Behaviour
Frequents the canopy and middle story. Usually in small noisy groups up to ten, even at nest. Sometimes solitary.
Diet
There is little published information, but they are thought to include ants and beetles in their diet.
