- Dysithamnus leucostictus
Includes Venezuelan Antvireo
Identification
Male: Lead grey both above and below with blackish wings showing two white wing bars and white spots on the coverts. The underside of the body may show short, thin white stipes on belly and throat area.
Female: Chestnut crown, warm brownish upperside becoming more olive on the rear end, greenish-olive vent area, and rest of underside (including throat and sides of head) slate grey with broad white streaking. Female tucuyensis is paler on upperside and vent than leucostictus.
Distribution
Venezuela, Colombia, and Peru.
Taxonomy
Two subspecies (with non-overlapping ranges) are recognized:
- D. p. leucostictus
- Eastern slope of Andes of Colombia to extreme northern Peru (Cajamarca)
- D. p. tucuyensis
- Coastal mountains of northern Venezuela (Falcón and Lara to Monagas)
- At least one field guide recognises this as a separate species (Venezuelan Antvireo).
White-streaked Antvireo was split from Plumbeous Antvireo.[1][2]
Habitat
Humid forests in foothills and mountains.
Behaviour
Plumbeous Antvireo tends to sing a shorter song than the White-streaked Antvireo.
