Identification
12-13 cm. A slender, warbler-like bird with a long graduated tail.
- Olive-green crown and upperparts
- Bright yellow underparts
- Pale white eyering and the eye is crossed with a pale supercilium
- Grey ear-coverts
Sexes similar, juveniles similar to adults.
Similar species
Differs from the similar Spectacled Tetraka in smaller size, brighter yellow underparts, less distinct eyering and shorter and more slender bill.
Distribution
Endemic to the east of Madagascar.
Fragmented range, not common.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Has been placed in genus Neomixis.
Habitat
Mid-altitude rainforests between 500-1400 m.
Behaviour
Feeds mainly on insects which are gleaned from the undersides of leaves and branches.
Usually seen in small groups of 3 to 7 birds, often in mixed flocks.
Breeding recorded in January. They build small grass nests shaped like balls which are suspended between 1-2 m above the ground. 2 eggs are laid.
Most probably a resident species.
