Identification
Male
- 22 cm (tail-feathers accounting for 14-15 centimetres)
- Irridescent green
- Blue throat
- Violet outer tail feathers (becoming blue towards the tip)
Female
- 9.5-11 cm with a shorter tail
- Blue crown
- White throat, breast and belly
Similar Species
Distribution
Endemic to the mountains of north-eastern Venezuela (Sucre and Monagas).
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1]; some authorities consider it a subspecies of Long-tailed Sylph[3].
Habitat
Scrub and humid/wet forests. Observed at heights around 1450 m - 1800 m.
