Identification

Male

  • 22 cm (tail-feathers accounting for 14-15 centimetres)
  • Irridescent green
  • Blue throat
  • Violet outer tail feathers (becoming blue towards the tip)

Female

  • 9.5-11 cm with a shorter tail
  • Blue crown
  • White throat, breast and belly

Similar Species

Long-tailed Sylph.

Distribution

Endemic to the mountains of north-eastern Venezuela (Sucre and Monagas).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1]; some authorities consider it a subspecies of Long-tailed Sylph[3].

Habitat

Scrub and humid/wet forests. Observed at heights around 1450 m - 1800 m.
