Identification

Distribution

Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Venezuela.

Taxonomy

Five subspecies are recognized: tanagrinus, guianensis, boliviensis, violaceus, and macropterus.

Habitat

Swamps and heavily degraded former forest.
