- Tyranneutes virescens
Identification
8-8.5 cm. Tiny (!). Eye colour, and distance between the end of the undertail coverts and tail tip can confirm ID.
- upperparts dull greyish green
- (usually concealed) coronal streak yellow
- under parts yellowish
- upper breast and throat suffused with greyish streaks (flammulations)
- tail short with short distance between end of the undertail coverts and tail tip
- wings extend to roughly end of vent
- bill often pinkish or reddish
- eyes, feet dark
Male coronal streak is larger (but usually invisible).
Similar species
Dwarf Tyrant-Manakin has a pale eye, (generally) a less reddish/pinkish bill and is yellower below.
Female Fiery-capped Manakin has flesh to orange legs, a reddish eye and a longer distance from undertail coverts to tail tip.
Distribution
Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela; this is a north-eastern counterpart of Dwarf Tyrant-Manakin.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species1.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests.
