Basileuterus tristriatus

Identification

13cm (5 in)

  • Olive-green overall plumage
  • Black and white striped head
  • Yellowish chest and belly
  • Brown legs

Variation

In some areas/subspecies, the birds show a yellow central crown stripe and overall a brighter plumage.

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Peru. Mostly in the Andes or in other mountain areas nearby.

Taxonomy

Costa Rican Warbler, Tacarcuna Warbler and Yungas Warbler were formerly included in this species.

Habitat

Humid mid and lower montane forests and forest edges

Behaviour

Breeding

Observed nesting in shallow depression hidden by foliage in embankment.

Diet

Their diet is thought to consist almost entirely of invertebrates.
