35–47 cm (13¾-18½ in)
- Very short pointed nuchal crest
- Brownish-olive overall plumage
- Bare red facial skin
- Pale bill
Distribution
Tanimbar Islands (Banda Sea) of Indonesia.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1]. It is sometimes considered to be a subspecies of Orange-footed Scrubfowl, Megapodius reinwardt.
Habitat
Primary forest, tall second growth semi-evergreen forests and old logged forests.
Behaviour
Terrestrial.
Diet
Their diet is not well recorded, but is presumed they scratch the forest floor for small invertebrates.
Breeding
There is little information. They build large mounds for their nests.
