Alcippe formosana


11cm. Heavily streaked. Dark grey brown back and tail, dark rufous brown wings, primaries edged white, black and rufous, giving striped effect, grey head and nape, crown grey with brown lines, white throat with dusky streaks, grey belly, yellow iris.


Endemic to Taiwan.


This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly considered conspecific with Streak-throated Fulvetta and Grey-hooded Fulvetta.
Like other Fulvettas this species was formerly placed in Alcippe.1


Broadleaf evergreen forest, also coniferous forest. Found in the undergrowth and in bamboo thickets. Occurs at 1590m to 3000m.


Feeds mainly on insects. Takes also small molluscs, some vegetable matter or seeds.
Found in pairs or small parties, foraging actively in manner of a tit.
Breeding season May to July in Taiwan. Lays 2 eggs.
All populations are resident.1
