Identification
16–18 cm (6¼-7 in)
- Olive-brown upperparts
- Greyish-brown tail feathers
- Two white wing bars
- White supercilium and throat
- Scaly brown pattern on white breast
- Whitish-buff abdomen
Distribution
Vanuatu, Fiji and New Caledonia.

There are five subspecies[1]:
- R. v. spilodera:
- Vanuatu and Banks Group
- R. v. layardi:
- Fiji (Ovalau and Viti Levu)
- R. v. erythronota:
- Fiji (Yaqaga and Vanua Levu)
- R. v. rufilateralis:
- Taveuni (Fiji)
- R. v. verreauxi:
- New Caledonia, Lifou and Maré islands
Habitat
Rainforests, forest edges, partially felled forests and gardens.
Behaviour
Diet
They forage in the lower canopy and undergrowth for insects.
Breeding
They construct a small neat cup nest. The clutch consists of 2 spotted eggs. Both dults share the nesting duties.
