- Grey plumage
- Darker wings with white spots

Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Four subspecies recognized[1]:
- P. s. maculipennis from south-eastern Colombia south to central Peru
- P. s.occipitalis from extreme eastern Colombia to northern Venezuela, Suriname and northern Brazil
- P. s. purusiana in southeastern Peru, northern Bolivia, and west-central Brazil south of the Amazon, east to the Madeira River
- P. s. stellaris in Brazil south of River Amazon and north-west Mato Grosso
Habitat
Canopy areas of lowland evergreen forests and forest edges, mostly in old growth. Usually occurring at heights around 700 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Often occurs in mid to upper level mixed species feeding flocks. Foraging for the larva of various insects and moths.
