Eastern Africa: Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi
Taxonomy
This is one of the many Sunbirds that have recently been moved to the genus Cinnyris from the genus Nectarinia.
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- C. s. shelleyi:
- South-eastern Zaire to south-eastern Tanzania, eastern Zambia, Malawi and northern Mozambique
- C. s. hofmanni:
- Eastern Tanzania (Ruvu and Pangani rivers to Morogoro region) - sometimes split as Hofmann's Sunbird
