Identification
15-16 cm.
- Narrow white eyering
- Off-white lores and feathers below eye created the image of a large eyering
- Umber-brown upperparts, more rufous-brown on tail and upperwing
- Cinnamon-buff underparts with olive wash, particulary on throat
- Brown eye
- Straw-coloured bill
- Straw-coloured or light yellow legs
Sexes similar, juveniles undescribed.
Similar species
Bare-eyed White-eye has a different head pattern, a smaller bill and a less brown appearance.
Distribution
Endemic to Ndeni in Santa Cruz Islands (North of Vanuatu, Solomon Islands).
An uncommon to fairly common restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
May form a superspecies with Bare-eyed White-eye.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests, forest edge and secondary growth.
Behaviour
Seen feeding on fruits. Forages in pairs slowly in canopy and middle storey of forest. No other information.
No information about breeding.
