Identification
13 cm.
- Black forehead and crown
- Slate-grey face and upperparts with white eye-crescents
- Black tail with extensive white in outer rectrices
- Deep orange-yellow throat and underparts
- White undertail-coverts
Sexes similar, juveniles undescribed.
Similar species
Lacks white face of similar White-faced Redstart.
Distribution
Endemic to a small area in east-central Venezuela (Cerro Guaiquinima).
Common in its tiny range.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Forms a superspecies with Paria Redstart, White-faced Redstart and Tepui Redstart. Formerly considered conspecific with White-faced Redstart but probably closer related to Tepui Redstart.
Habitat
Forest edge, gallery forest, humid cloudforest and dense scrub.
Occurs at 1200 to 1600m.
Behaviour
No information on diet or breeding available.
Presumably a sedentary species.
