Identification

Distribution
South America: found in Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil.
Taxonomy
The last part of the scientific name has been spelled castaneocapillus but SACC in their baseline has a note saying that castaneocapilla is the correct form.
Tepui Redstart was in the past considered a part of Brown-capped Redstart.
Subspecies
Three subspecies are recognized[1]:
- M.c. duidae:
- Tepuis of south-eastern Venezuela (Mount Duida, Mount Parú, Mount Huachamacari)
- M.c. castaneocapilla:
- M.c. maguirei:
- Tepuis of south-eastern Venezuela (Cerro de la Neblina)
Habitat
Montane forests, clearings and forest edges. Generally at heights between 1200–2200 m..
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of insects. The usually feed in pairs or small groups and seem to join in with mixed parties quite often.
Vocalisation
The song has been described as a chipping which accelerates and falls in pitch
