Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

Clements recognises 5 subspecies[1]

  • C. m. murina:
  • New Guinea (lowlands throughout, except for the Trans-Fly region); also Salawati and Yapen islands
  • C. m. monacha:
  • C. m. pallida:
  • Trans-Fly lowlands of south-east New Guinea
  • C. m. capitalis:
  • Lowland forests of Waigeo and Batanta islands (New Guinea)
  • C. m. fumosa:
  • Lowland forests of Misool Island (New Guinea)

Habitat

Moist lowland forests and montanes.

Behaviour

Flight

Members of the Acanthizidae family have a characteristic undulating flight path.
