Identification

12–13 cm (4¾-5 in)

  • Blue upperparts and chin
  • Paler blue broad supercilium and forehead
  • Chestnut underparts

Distribution

Asia: found in the Himalayas (north-eastern India, south-eastern Tibet and southern China); winters to Myanmar

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

They breed in mixed conifer forests, which also contains tree rhododendron.

Behaviour

Diet

They feed on the ground, mostly eating insects.
