Identification

12–12·5 cm (4¾-5 in)
Male

  • Black head
  • White supercilium, behind eye
  • Bluish-grey upperparts and upper wing
  • White throat
  • Red underparts
  • Long black tail

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Bolivia and Brazil

Taxonomy

  • Tropical northern Brazil (eastern Pará)

Habitat

Tropical rainforests and forest edges. Also drier deciduous forests and secondary growth.

Behaviour

Diet

It is thought their diet consists almost entirely of insects and invertebrates. They feed high in the canopy.
