Identification
30cm. A distinctive and beautiful starling.
- White head, nape, breast and belly
- Whitish lace-like crest
- Grey-brown wings
- Rufous-brownish tail
- Yellow legs
- Yellow, long and slightly decurved bill
Distribution
Formerly endemic to Reunion.
Disappeared in the middle of the nineteenth century.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
The taxonomic position is disputed and some consider it to belong to the Helmetshrikes.
Habitat
Presumed to occour in swamp forests and mountainous coastal forests.
Behaviour
No reliable information.
Used to be very tame and confiding.
