Identification

Distribution

Ecuador and southwestern Colombia.

Taxonomy

A member of the Ramphastidae family. Gould, 1851.

Habitat

High elevations, approaching 9,000' in subtropical or tropical moist montanes.

Behaviour

Toucans are frugivorous birds. A variety of insects for protein are also eaten, especially during their nesting cycle. They lay 3-4 white eggs. Incubation for all species lasts 16 days, and young fledge the nest at 46-50 days.
