Mindoro Bulbul and Visayan Bulbul were formerly included in this species.
All three were formerly placed in genus Ixos
Subspecies[1]
- H. p. philippinus:
- Luzon, Marinduque, Catanduanes, Polillo and adjacent small islands
- H. p. parkesi:
- Burias (Philippines)
- H. p. saturatior:
- Samar, Leyte, Cebu, Bohol and Mindanao and adjacent small islands
Habitat
Forest edge, advanced second growth and forest.
