Pearl-bellied White-eye - BirdForum Opus

Identification

13cm.

  • frontal band yellow
  • eyering broad white interrupted by blackish spot at front
  • anterior cap dark brownish
  • rest of crown and upperparts bright yellowish-citrine
  • primaries and tail feathers blackish-brown with broad yellow-citrine edges
  • throat, upper breast and undertail-coverts lemon-chrome
  • belly white with yellow median stripe connecting yellow of vent with yellow of throat

Sexes similar, juveniles undescribed.

Similar species

Similar to Golden-bellied White-eye but forehead yellow (not dusky), white eyering and underside white (not yellow).

Distribution

Endemic to Kai Besar Island, Indonesia.
A moderately common restricted-range species.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
It's sometimes considered conspecific with Golden-bellied White-eye and forms a superspecies with it.

Habitat

Forest, open woodland and cultivation. Occurs from sea-level up to 610m.

Behaviour

No information on diet.
Usually seen in pairs, sometimes singly or in mixed-species flocks. Forages in middle storey.
No information about breeding.
Presumably a resident species.
