Similar species
Sooty Barbthroat differs in tail pattern.
Distribution
Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela.
Taxonomy
Threnetes leucurus has four subspecies:[1]
- T. l. leucurus
- Southern Venezuela to Suriname, Amazonian Brazil and northern Bolivia
- T. l. cervinicauda
- Eastern Colombia to eastern Ecuador, north-eastern Peru and adjacent western Amazonian Brazil
- T. l. rufigastra
- Central Peru to northern Bolivia
- T. l. medianus
- North-eastern Brazil south of the Amazon
Pale-tailed Barbthroat and Sooty Barbthroat has been two species, then lumped, and now again split.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests and swamps.
