Distribution
Breeding in Nicaragua, in the El Chocoyero - El Brujo Protected Area. The nesting sites lay within this protected area, but the birds still face threats from the outside world when they leave the reserve to feed.
Outside of breeding, they occur on the Pacific slope from eastern Oaxaca, Mexico, to southern Nicaragua.
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in genus Aratinga.
This is a monotypic species[1].
