- The western subspecies to about Myanmar and Indochina have been named Indian White-eye
- Two subspecies from Java, Bali and possibly Sumatra has been split out to form Sangkar White-eye
- The subspecies auriventer together with a couple of subspecies from Everett's White-eye have been split out to form Hume's White-eye
- Subspecies williamsoni together with other subspecies from elsewhere have formed the new species Swinhoe's White-eye
