Identification
31cm. Dark brown, reddish tips to feathers, white spots on the primaries, pale brown head, dark red crown on the male and a blackish-brown on the female.
Distribution
Endemic to the Island of Okinawa in Japan. Critically endangered with a population of less than 600.
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in genus Sapheopipo.
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Subtropical, evergreen broad-leaved forest of at least 30 years old.
Behaviour
Nesting is between late February and May.
