Identification
12–12·7 cm, a small yellow to olive flycatcher with a wide bill
- Upperparts olive green
- Darker, yellow-edged wing and tail
- Two yellow wing bars
- Throat, eye-ring, and sides of head golden yellow
- Lores often ochre colored
- Underside mostly yellow with some olive tint on upper breast

Distribution
Central and South America and the Caribbean:
Central America: found in Panama
Caribbean: Trinidad, Tobago
South America: Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil
Taxonomy
This species was formerly considered the same species as Olive-faced Flatbill under the name of Yellow-breasted Flycatcher.
Subspecies
Three subspecies are recognized[1].
- T. f. aurulentus:
- T. f. dissors:
- South-western Venezuela (Amazonas) and lower Amazonian Brazil
- T. f. flaviventris:
- Eastern Brazil (Maranhão to Espírito Santo and Mato Grosso)
Subspecies collingwoodi is not recognised by most authorities, but is considered to be a subspecies of T.f. aurulentus.
Habitat
Upper levels of dry and humid forests, forest edges, gallery forest, secondary growth, shrubby areas and the edges of mangrove swamps.
Behaviour
Breeding
It builds a bottle shaped nest from plant material which is suspended from a branch. The clutch consists of 2-3 creamy white eggs, marked with violet at the larger end. The eggs are incubated by the female for 17 days.
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of beetles and weevils, among other arthropods. They have been recorded as eating berries in the Caribbean.
