Identification
An extinct species, known only from one single specimen. Length 19cm.
- Dusky black plumage
- Lighther brown feather edges on body and less conspicuous on the remiges and tail
- Yellow eye
- Dusky brownish bill
- Pale brownish bill
Distribution
Was probably endemic to Mauke, Cook Islands.
The specimen was collected in 1825. The species was never seen again, however the island was not visited by ornithologists until 1973.
Taxonomy
Probably a monotypic species.
Habitat
Unknown.
Behaviour
The collector, Andrew Bloxam noted that it was hopping about a tree.
Otherwise nothing is known.
