Identification

  • Conspicuous white streaking on a black collar (lacking in interpositus)
  • Rufous patches behind the eye (grey in interpositus)

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.

Taxonomy

There are 6 subspecies:

  • C. a. transfluvialis:
  • South-eastern Colombia (Caquetá) to northern Brazil (eastern Amazonas)
  • C. a. salvini:
  • C. a. arada:
  • C. a. griseolateralis:
  • Northern Amazonian Brazil in drainage of Rio Tapajós
  • C. a. interpositus:
  • Brazil (west of Rio Tapajós to northern Mato Grosso)
  • C. a. modulator:

Habitat

Humid Forest.

Behaviour

Diet

Diet includes invertebrates.

Vocalisation

It has a magnificent, haunting song.
