Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- A. f. fulvigula:
- South-eastern [[USA] (Florida)
- A. f. maculosa:
- Gulf coast of US (Alabama to southern Texas) and north-eastern Mexico; introduced to South Carolina
Habitat
Frequents a variety of wetland habitat ranging from those more established to those resulting from seasonal rainfall.
Behaviour
Diet
An omnivorous and opportunistic feeder, they primarily gravitate toward invertebrates found in a wetland type environment, vegetable matter, smaller fish & shellfish, as well as insects.
Breeding
Nest amongst vegetation on the ground.
