Identification
14-18 cm - Amongst the world's smallest raptors

Distribution
Southern Asia: breeds in southern Tenasserim, peninsular Thailand and Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Bali, Singapore and Borneo. Now scarce in Java and Bali.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Treated as a race of Collared Falconet M. caerulescens by some authors.
Habitat
Forest edge and clearings; secondary-growth broad-leaved woodland up to 1,200m, sometimes close to human habitation.

The diet includes small birds and insects.
Breeding
It breeds in tree holes.
