Identification
NOW EXTINCT Dark grey brown upperside, lighter on the underside. The bases of the tail feathers were white, and the head lavender grey. A ring short black feathers surrounded the red bill. The feet were reddish brown.
Distribution
Formerly on Réunion. Last report 1834
Taxonomy
Presumably a monotypic species.
The scientific name is also spelled mascarinus.
