Identification

11 cm. Overall a small greyish-brown flycatcher with two buff wing bars with a long tail.

  • Upperside grey-brown
  • Wings more dusky but with buff feather edges and two buff wing bars
  • Face grey
  • Supercilium wide but not strongly contrasting
  • Throat grey
  • Breast olive-grey, paler at center
  • Underside olive-grey to yellow
  • Eyes brown
  • Bill dark with pink base to lower mandible

Distribution

Northern Peru (arid tropical Marañón Valley)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

This species was previously considered a part of Mouse-colored Tyrannulet which has been split into several species.

Habitat

Dry woodland and scrub and disturbed areas next to those.

Behaviour

Eats both insects and fruit, for example mistletoe.

Vocalisation

Dawn song is described as a dji-dji-dji-dji-djzzee! with an almost sneezing quality. Other sounds include a dry rattle.
