Identification

Size 13.5-16 cm (5.3-6.25 in)

  • Long, stout, de-curved bill
  • Olive upperparts
  • White throat and breast
  • Yellow belly

The male has a tuft of orange feathers under the wings which only visible in flight

Distribution

Himalayas and India to south east Asia and Indonesia.

Taxonomy

Pale Spiderhunter and Orange-tufted Spiderhunter were formerly included in this species.

Forests, scrub vegetation, mangroves and coastal scrub.

Behaviour

Diet

They forage singly and in pairs for nectar, spiders and insects.
