Western Africa: found in the Rift Valley mountains of eastern Zaire, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and Kenya

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species^[1].

This taxon is considered a subspecies of Black-headed Waxbill by some authors^[2]
