Psilopogon annamensis

Identification

Distribution

Southern and eastern Laos and Vietnam

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly considered to be a subspecies of Black-browed Barbet.
Sometimes placed in the genus Megalaima.

Habitat

Upper and middle levels of montane broad-leaf forest canopy between 600 to 1800meters.

Behaviour

Breeding

It excavates a nest hole in a tree and breeding takes place April-June. Both sexes incubate the eggs and care for the young.
