- Buffy forehead
- Red crown to nape, maybe with some blackish spotting
Distribution
Asia: found from Himalayas of Afghanistan to Nepal.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- D. h. albescens:
- North-eastern Afghanistan (Safed Koh) and northern Pakistan to Himachal Pradesh
- D. h. himalayensis:
Habitat
Groves and light forests. Dense dry and wet coniferous forests. Observed at heights around 7000ft.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of insects and their larvae, including wood-boring beetles. Also plant material, including pine cone seeds.
